Agriculture involves cultivating crops, raising livestock, fishing, and managing forests for food and other products. The development of farming allowed humans to settle in cities by providing a stable food supply. While grains were gathered over 105,000 years ago, they were only planted around 11,500 years ago. Domestication of sheep, goats, pigs, and cattle occurred about 10,000 years ago. Farming emerged independently in at least 11 world regions.
