Carbon (C), the 6th element, is a crucial component of life on Earth. This nonmetallic element has 4 valence electrons, allowing it to form diverse compounds. Carbon is found in Earth's crust and has three naturally occurring isotopes: stable 12C and 13C, and radioactive 14C.
