Desert greening

from Terraforming Wiki

Desert greening involves restoring vegetation in arid regions for ecology, farming, and water reclamation. It applies to both hot and cold deserts, but not ice or permafrost areas, and covers about 32 million sq km globally. Deserts are found on all continents and make up almost 20% of Earth's land, with their size recently increasing.
