Oasis

from Terraforming Wiki

In ecology, an oasis is a lush area within arid or semi-arid regions that supports diverse plant and animal life. These fertile zones can feature surface water bodies, or rely on underground aquifers accessed through natural springs or human-made wells. Geographically, oases often serve as vital waypoints along trade routes, offering respite and resources to travelers. Even in less verdant locations, oases may exist where deep wells tap into subterranean water sources, creating pockets of life in otherwise inhospitable environments.
