Viscosity

The viscosity of a fluid quantifies its resistance to gradual deformation under shear or tensile stress. Informally, viscosity is the "thickness" of a liquid - syrup is more viscous than water. Formally, viscosity is defined as shear stress divided by shear rate, with SI units of pascal-seconds.
