Carl Jacob Löwig

Carl Jacob Löwig (17 March 1803 – 27 March 1890) was a German chemist renowned for his independent discovery of bromine in 1825, the same year as Antoine Jérôme Balard. Löwig made this discovery while studying mineral salts under Leopold Gmelin at the University of Heidelberg, where he earned his PhD.
