Helium, a chemical element with the symbol He and atomic number 2, is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, inert, and monatomic gas. It is the first element in the noble gas group of the periodic table and has the lowest boiling point among all elements. Helium is the second-lightest and second most abundant element in the observable universe, after hydrogen, making up about 24% of the total elemental mass. Its abundance is similar in both the Sun and Jupiter due to the high nuclear binding energy of helium-4. Large amounts of new helium are created by nuclear fusion of hydrogen in stars.
