The neutron, denoted by the symbol n or n0, is an electrically neutral subatomic particle with a mass marginally exceeding that of a proton. Along with protons, neutrons form the nucleus of an atom. As protons and neutrons exhibit comparable behavior within the nucleus, they are collectively termed nucleons. The mass of a nucleon is around one atomic mass unit or dalton (Da). Nuclear physics characterizes the attributes and interactions of nucleons. Protons and neutrons are composite particles, each comprising three quarks.
